Pakistani-American Groups Against
Military Rule in Pakistan!
Washington, DC:
Various groups of Pakistani-Americans
called an emergency meeting on November 4, 2007 in Washington, DC. Representatives
of non-profit organizations, human rights advocacy groups, media, political parties
and professionals, mostly from Sindhi and Baloch origins, met to discuss the current
unfortunate events in Pakistan, whereby military dictator General Pervaiz Musharraf
declared 'Emergency Rule' in the country on November 03, 2007.
Participants of the meeting expressed
extreme disappointment and anger at this brutal action and mutually agreed that a
pro-active campaign will be carried out against such criminal fascist attempts from
radical extremist military regimes against peace and democracy in Pakistan. After
extensive deliberations, the group chalked out a strategy for developing consensus
among all peace and democracy loving groups/nations/individuals to practically
alienate and discourage such authoritative and dictatorial forces in Pakistan, in
order to bring an end to such brutal & repeatedly attempted crimes committed against
the laws and people of that country by their armed forces.
In order to do so, the meeting called
for a Campaign involving more Pakistani-American and other international human rights
and democratic groups/organizations/institutions to carry out an active advocacy
campaign geared towards the international community and all factions influencing any
kind of support to the unconstitutional & fascist Musharraf regime in Pakistan. The
campaign would aim at growing allies and building pressure in favor of democracy,
civil liberties & rule of Law, and against centralized, authoritative military rule
in Pakistan. A series of messages would be sent to the US authorities and governments
of democratic countries in the world to express concern over the illegitimate support
to dictator Musharraf, who has defied all legal democratic systems and thus is an
unnatural ally in the war against terrorism. They would be urged to suuport the
'people' of Pakistan instead, who can be better allies against the nuisance of
terrorism.
The group decided to hold a peaceful
Demonstration Rally in front of the White House at Lafayette Park on November 09,
2007 at 3:00 to 4:00 pm. All concerned individuals/groups are urged to join. The
Rally would condemn the declaration of emergency rule in Pakistan and urge the US
authorities to immediately stop supporting military regime and help the Pakistani
people to restore democracy, reinstate rule of law and promote provincial autonomy
in the country. To this effect, some long-term strategies were also brought under
discussion. Each individual participant of the meeting committed extend the loop
of this campaign to more groups working on human rights, justice and democracy and
work towards a focussed, action oriented campaign for promoting justice, democracy
and peace in Pakistan.
