MR. HUSSAIN HAROON Former Speaker of Sindh Assembly

About Hussain Harroon:
Educated at Karachi University, Hussain Haroon has taken keen interest in business and politics.
Mr. Haroon has held numerous distinguished positions in this arena since 1970.
He served as the Election Coordinator for the Pakistan National Assembly in 1970 and
a party leader of an independent group of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation from
1979-1983, also serving as chairman of its Finance Committee from 1979-1981. He served
as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 1985-1988, holding two chairmanships
and the positions of Speaker and Leader of the Opposition at different intervals.
Mr. Haroon then represented Pakistan on the international level, serving as a delegate
to the United Nations General Assembly and member of the UN’s 2nd Committee in 1990.
He also demonstrated his commitment to environmental issues as a member of the Pakistan
Environmental Protection Council from 1996-1997. Mr. Haroon currently holds the position
of president of the Pakistan-China Business Forum, which he has done since 1999.
He also was the president of the Sind Club from 2002-2004, and currently serves as the
president of the English Speaking Union of Pakistan. Mr. Haroon has held numerous other
distinguished positions in various organizations, through which he has contributed
meaningfully to the Sindhi community.
