NO to Kalabagh Dam

& Military Operation in Balochistan

Global Pashtun Institute (GPIPD) is deeply concerned about the on-going military operation in Balochistan and the announcement of the federal government of Pakistan to build big reservoirs on the Indus River. GPIPD is of the opinion that the human rights violations, extra-judicial killings and disappearances of Balochis will have serious repercussions for the unity and stability of Pakistan. Similarly, the construction of big dams on river Indus, despite categorical opposition of the elected representatives of the smaller provinces, would be the final blow to the unity of the federation.

GPIPD demands from the government of Pakistan to immediately stop the military operation in Balochistan, allow human rights organizations to determine human rights violations committed by parties to the conflict so far, and renounce the construction of controversial projects, which might threaten the integrity and stability of Pakistan.

In order to publicly announce its concerns on these issues, GPIPD along with the World Sindhi Institute, will hold a demonstration in Washington D.C. in early February, 2006.
